The Cranleigh Grass Court Tennis Festival is exactly the kind of event that the UK needs to inspire the next generation of tennis players’. Tennis should be fun and in such a wonderful setting as Cranleigh cricket green playing tennis on the grass you are all truly privileged. I might even make a comeback, how about a Wild Card JB?
Chris Eaton / Ex GB Davis Cup player and Wimbledon Star 2008
Tennis has been a big part of my life for well over 30 years. It's helped me gain invaluable life skills, given me some incredible experiences and introduced me to some amazing people, many of whom are lifelong friends. But above all else, it's been the source of so much fun and created so many happy memories...and that's what the Cranleigh Grass Court Tennis Festival is all about! It embodies all that's good about sport and is run by someone who understands the value of tennis and community more than most. Come and join us...I’ll be there.
Dan Lobb / Ex World ranked tennis player and TV presenter
As a child, I spent many enjoyable summers playing tournaments throughout Surrey. I gained valuable competitive experience, but more importantly formed friendships that last to this day. I welcome the return of the Cranleigh Grass Court Tennis Festival, and look forward to contributing to the fun that is planned for everyone of all ages and abilities.
Danny Sapsford / Ex World Ranked Player / GB Davis Cup Player
The Cranleigh Tennis Festival is an amazing idea and anything that gets people out playing the best sport in the world, is great with me. Tennis is a sport for life and teaches so many life lessons and opens doors to meet some great people. Who knows maybe the next big star of tennis will be introduced to the sport on the day.
James Cluskey / Ex Irish Davis Cup Player and was ranked 145 in the world only 4 years ago
I’m delighted and proud to say The Cranleigh Grass Court Tennis Festival is my baby, and our aim is to create a pop up grass court tournament for all ages of children in a festival environment. We want as many children playing and for as long as possible and in the most gorgeous village setting of Cranleigh we are sure all the family will love it.

This will be a fun and fantastic event for those who love the game and those new to tennis who want to give it a go. Cardio tennis is excellent fun and any level player beginner to experience can join in together. I have taken part myself in a few sessions since I stopped playing professionally. Looking forward to seeing lots of girls playing at Cranleigh.
Melanie South / EX GB Fed Cup Player and top 100 in the World
I have fond memories of the Cranleigh Grass Court tournament both as a junior flying over from Kenya to play the UK summer circuit and as an adult when I started teaching at Cranleigh School, winning the mixed doubles several times and men’s doubles once with the school captain of tennis. Great fun and a real sense of community.
Michael Wilson / Headmaster of Cranleigh Prep School and Ex Davis Cup Coach to Kenyan National Team
Hi all great idea the grass court tennis festival at Cranleigh and I wish it every success. Fun, social, meeting friends and feeling comfortable with the tennis environment are all key subjects for kids to enjoy themselves. Some may go onto wanting to improve, play tournaments and get a ranking while others may just want to play socially. Both are good. When all of our 4 Romy, Blake, Ross and Lauren were growing up they all ‘mucked in together’ fed off each others improvement, and enjoyed the competitive side. No great dramas and ups and downs keeping a level perspective if win or lose and no ‘blame game’ sessions I feel are important and then to judge if when young how keen the kids are at pursuing tennis to what level i.e. club, county, regional, national or International. All 4 played a ton of tennis when young and had a great experience all the way through with lasting memories and especially in Ross’s case a lifetime career in the game Internationally, and now business career in the game. Enjoy the experience at Cranleigh.
Paul Hutchins / Ex World ranked player / Stalwart of GB Tennis and Former GB Davis Cup Coach
I have tremendous memories of a fun packed Cranleigh tennis week in the early 80’s in which we all enjoyed so many amazing tennis events. I played and won a family event with my Mum when I was 10 years old and in all my time as a professional player it was one of my fondest memories. I picked my partner well as my Mum made the third round of Wimbledon twice and was a Wightman Cup player with Virginia Wade! I can remember a great sense of family, fun and the love of the game. If the parent and child event does take place I would love to come and attend.
Ross Matheson / Ex Top Scotland & GB International / Wimbledon star from 1993-1998
There is nothing better than getting outdoors and playing tennis on a grass court in the prime of the British summer. The tennis festival at Cranleigh will undoubtedly be huge amounts of fun, improve your game and a great social event that is not to be missed.
Sean Thornley / Former Player and top 150 ranked doubles player in the world
I have very fond memories of the Cranleigh Tennis Tournament held on the Cranleigh Cricket Club Ground with several big named professional players attending and with The Wimbledon referee of the time , Mike Gibson, also running the local tournament. Looking back it makes me smile to remember those matches I played on some rather dodgy grass courts where the cricket out field would have been. Having said that this was one of my favourite tournaments of the year and have many fond memories (although I never won !! Final not bad though) I am so pleased it is being resurrected.
Steve Batchelor / Olympic Gold Medallist and former tennis pro

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to play & enjoy tennis on its most beautiful surface. I always found grass courts to show a more sociable side to the game but be ready to test your eye-hand coordination and reaction skills!
